In Flight by R.K. Lilley (Up In The Air #1)

16134782When reserved flight attendant Bianca gets one look at billionaire hotel owner James Cavendish, she loses all of her hard-won composure. For a girl who can easily juggle a tray of champagne flutes at 35,000 feet in three inch heels, she finds herself shockingly weak-kneed from their first encounter. The normally unruffled Bianca can't seem to look away from his electrifying turquoise gaze. They hold a challenge, and a promise, that she finds impossible to resist, and she is a girl who is used to saying no and meaning it.

Bianca is accustomed to dealing with supermodels and movie stars in her job as a first class flight attendant, but James Cavendish puts them all to shame in the looks department. If only it were just his looks that she found so irresistible about the intimidating man, Bianca could have ignored his attentions. But what tempts her like never before is the dominant pull he seems to have over her from the moment they meet, and the promise of pleasure, and pain, that she reads in his eyes.

MY TAKE:
Sorry it took so long for me to get this book finished and posted.  Whew... it's been a full week, that is for sure.  Hopefully things have settled down now. *snort* not likely but here's hoping.
So let's get this thing going.  Let me start by saying that this book has a very "Fifty Shades" feel to it, like almost spot on but thankfully I loved FSG! I'm going to try and do this without spoilers.  Here it goes...
James is a little quirky, eccentric, arrogant, but also there is a soft side that shows up when you least expect it.  Both James and Bianca are completely fucked up, but neither liked to talk about their pasts or what it has done to them.  However even with all of their fuckedupness (yes I am making words up here, get used to it, it will happen again. LOL) these two have some kind of crazy chemistry together.
Bianca is a 23 year old flight attendant, tall beautiful blonde, who happens to still be a virgin...(long pause for dramatic response)....that has no interest in dating. Her and her BFF Stephen have struggled and been through some shit together. Stephen is her protector (he totally has some issues as well)and will stand up for Bianca at all costs even when it effects him negatively. Bianca finds herself drawn to James and his dark side, and finds that the BDSM life James has brought her into also gives her strength to fight her demons.  Until she feels betrayed by James and she lets her guard down and her demon (her father) shows up and nearly kills her.
James on the other hand is a gorgeous (nicknamed by Bianca Mr. Beautiful) billionaire who starts showing up on her regular flights from Vegas to New York. He needs to dominate and admits to being a sadist. Despite some of the unbelievable things that James says... and there are a few, like.... “I'm going to tie you to the bed and take your hymen.”  and  “Now lift up your skirt and stroke the petals of your sex lightly.” .... who says things like that??? BUT again, despite all that, I kind of started to like him and hate him at the same time. He also doesn't date or have relationships, or at least that is what he makes Bianca think, until he takes her to his New York apartment for the night, but intends on leaving her behind to go to a charity event (how rude) only Bianca has no intention on staying alone in his home.  She finds herself in an awkward position on her way out of his apartment coming face to face with a beautiful woman Julia and his housekeeper discussing how James will eventually marry Julia.
Neither James or Bianca ever reveal their true feelings and near the end of the book you finally find out the dark paths each has survived, and I do mean dark. In the end James is starting to show more of his feelings for Bianca, now that he has possibly lost the "relationship" if you can call it that and she almost lost her life by the hands of her father.
I have mixed emotions about this book. The sex in this book is HOT although it does contain a whole lot of rough sex and BDSM is heavily involved.  So if this is something that turns you off, don't read this book. LOL!
I think it was very similar to FSG, and although I know some people have been put off for that reason alone, it didn't bother me so much.  I found myself wanting to know what the hell each of them had been through, so I kept reading and now... I want to read book two "Mile High" so that I can see what other kind of shit these two will suffer through.
I think since I feel the need to move on to the next book I need to give this one somewhere in the range of 2.5 to 3 stars.  That puts it right in that neutral territory in the middle.  Maybe the story as a whole will boost it up, but we will see.

Until Next Time!!!
Kim
