The Wrong Sister by Kris Pearson

19221227The Wrong Sister
From the 'Wicked in Wellington' series.
Fiona Delaporte has an impossible assignment - to care for her newly widowed brother-in-law and his tiny daughter. (The newly widowed tall, dark and delicious brother-in-law she's secretly wanted for five long, frustrating years.)

Christian Hartley would rather spend time with anyone except the tempting woman who reminds him so much of his cherished wife. But she has six weeks leave from her cruise-liner job on the other side of the world, and seems determined to do her family duty. How can craving the wrong sister feel so right?

WARNING: Contains one hot man who always gets what he wants - in bed and out.

MY TAKE:

Well it's that time again!  There were mixed reviews about this book, and let me tell ya, I understand why.  First let me say, this actually turned out to be a pretty decent story.  However it started out pretty slow for me, and by slow I mean, it felt like there was too much time getting detailed imagery.  What color a dress was, how the house was decorated, blah, blah, blah.  BUT I stuck it out and read on!  I wanted to know what the ruckus was about.  Anyhow sometime about halfway through I really started to like this book.  Ok that may not be fair. I liked the story from the beginning.  Oh I know, I know, there are those people out there that hated it, because of the "taboo" story line.  HURRRLOOO the taboo-ness is IN THE TITLE!!!  Come on people,  read the intro, that's why its there.  If you can't handle the content described in the intro, don't read the book.... next.... move on.

OK now that we have that out of the way, let's move on. *Spoiler Alert*

Well as you read above this book has kind of a taboo subject *gasp*.   Thing is... I didn't think it was so bad.  I can only assume that in New Zealand, where this book takes place, it is unheard of.  So Christian has lost his wife Jan to breast cancer, but there is Jan's sister Fiona, who Christian met for the first time at he and Jan's wedding.  Both Christian and Fiona, felt something, during that first meeting.  BUT THEY NEVER ACTED ON IT PEOPLE!!!! DO YOU HEAR ME???  It wasn't until after Jan was gone.  Her parents wanted Fiona to go help out Christian with his young daughter Nicky.  But it was torture for both of them, they fought and pushed each other away... A LOT.  Until finally about half way  through the book, shit gets real.....well....kinda.  After Fiona is hurt in the rubble of a break-in/robbery at Christians home, he realizes he may not be able to deny himself much longer.  Yet again his guilt seems to get in the way. Finally Fiona leaves while his is on a business trip, goes to spend time with her parents before she has to go back to her glamorous cruise ship life.

*Let me interject my feelings right here... All the back and forth ... I want her/him... I can't have her/him .... is giving me some serious whip lash.*

So back to Christian, it's been a little while a couple weeks maybe... <insert sarcasm right here, because seriously this entire book takes place from start to finish, ehh maybe a couple of months and that's pushin it.>  anyhow, Christian's new nanny left and he is desperate to have Fiona back. (I was checking to see how much was left in this book, because I seriously can't take much more of the wishy washy bullshit. GET TO IT ALREADY!)  Anyhow they end up at a Lodge that Christian is part owner, and finally things are happening.  Problem is now, Fiona only has 5 days left of her bereavement leave.  (What!?!?)

OK OK so I wont string this out any longer for you.... the ending of the book was very sweet and romantic.  Christian calls Fiona while she is on her beloved cruise ship, and tells her he will be in Venice.  She of course says the ship wont be in Venice. BUT Christian already made arrangements with her captain to have her helicoptered to Venice.  When she gets there her and Christian spend some romantic time bumpin uglies, then he has a very elegant dinner planned where he gives her a surprise.  Letters he found from her sister Jan.  One to him and one to her.  So after all the back and forth, Jan had known that there was a spark between them and thanked Christian for never acting on it and gives him and Fiona her blessing to be together if that is what they want. FINALLY they say I love you's and he asks her to marry him.   THE END

OMG  let me say this.... I had a love/hate relationship with this book.  I wanted to love it but I found myself hating how long it took to get past all the "fluff" and get to the real story.

Getting right to it I am going to give this book a 2 stars, not because I hated the story or even the content but definitely because of the "fluff" as I am referring to it.

*sighs* Oh my gosh, now on to the next book.
